As my representative/senator I ask that you begin immediate work on passing legislation to aid law enforcement and communities in preventing future such attacks.

Florida should lead the nation in response to the murders in Parkland by immediately passing a Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO) or Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) law.

A GVRO/ERPO is a mechanism for law enforcement officers, family members, intimate partners, guardians, mental health professionals, or school administrators to petition a court (or request the police petition a court) to temporarily limit access to firearms by a specific individual who poses a credible risk of harm to self or others.

Four states have a GVRO/ERPO law in place (California, Washington, Oregon, Indiana and Connecticut).

One small success on GVRO/ERPO could prevent another mass murderer from killing children in schools, or people at a concert, or club goers. It can have secondary effects in stopping suicides and domestic violence. It can also stand as an example of success for further consensus actions to reduce mass murder in our communities.

Thank you,

For your U.S. Congress Representative or Senator
https://ziplook.house.gov/htbin/findrep_house
https://www.senate.gov/senators/index.htm

Rubio, Marco - (R - FL)
284 Russell Senate Office Building Washington DC 20510
(202) 224-3041
Contact: www.rubio.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/contact

Nelson, Bill - (D - FL)
716 Hart Senate Office Building Washington DC 20510
(202) 224-5274
Contact: www.billnelson.senate.gov/contact-bill

Dear Representative or Senator XYZ,
The horrible murders in Parkland, Florida must be answered by achievable action. As my representative/senator I ask that you begin immediate work on passing legislation to aid law enforcement and communities in preventing future such attacks.

I have written to my state representatives asking them to pass a Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO) or Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) law.

A GVRO/ERPO is a mechanism for law enforcement officers, family members, intimate partners, guardians, mental health professionals, or school administrators to petition a court (or request the police petition a court) to temporarily limit access to firearms by a specific individual who poses a credible risk of harm to self or others.

I want you to support them at the federal level.

A bill in the U.S. Congress that would fund grants within states seeking to establish GVRO/ERPO laws should be passed - specifically, H.R.2598 - Gun Violence Restraining Order Act.

One small success on GVRO/ERPO could prevent another mass murderer from killing children in schools, or people at a concert, or club goers.
